Secondhand Book Stalls at Tynemouth

I took a walk along the Northumberland coast last Saturday. I started in Whitley Bay, then wound my way down along the beaches, stopped off for lunch, and then ended up in Tynemouth Market to check out the secondhand book stalls. The market is well-known locally, but the book action is perhaps less known. This is a walk you need to fit in if you’re ever visiting Newcastle. Here’s the low-down in a photo gallery.

This post could not be more timely! My son is about to fly the nest, well, he’s off to sail the seven seas as a trainee deck officer in the merchant navy. He’ll be training in Tyneside, so in a few weeks we’ll all be trekking up to Newcastle to see him settled in his new college digs. While I can’t see me talking him into an educational visit to St. James’ Park, a trip to Tyneside market couldn’t possibly appear suspicious – heehee!
